Position: Viticulture Intern
About the Winery
We are a family-run winery located in Galicia, northwestern Spain, with 16 hectares of vineyards cultivated on steep mountain terraces. Our vineyards are granitic and schist soils and a diverse range of grape varieties, including Mencía, Albariño, Godello, Brancellao and Bastarda.
Our work focuses on mountain viticulture, vineyard observation and the management of our vineyards throughout the growing season. As a family winery, we offer a hands-on experience in a small-scale production environment, where the intern will work closely with the vineyard team and gain practical knowledge of viticulture in Atlantic climate.
Main Responsibilities
Vineyard monitoring: Regular observation of vineyard conditions, vine health, disease pressure, phenological development and grape moth activity.
Seasonal vineyard operations: Participation in seasonal vineyard tasks, including green work and canopy management, working alongside the vineyard team.
Viticultural experimentation: Assistance with vineyard trials and experimental projects when required.
Vineyard data collection: Recording and analysing vineyard observations and statistics, monitoring co-planted vineyards and studying the development and management of old vines.
Winery support: Assistance with cellar operations and winemaking activities when needed, particularly during busy periods such as harvest.
Learning Opportunities
The internship offers practical experience in mountain viticulture, vineyard monitoring, sustainable vineyard management and the study of old vines and co-planted vineyards. It also provides an opportunity to understand the relationship between grape varieties, soil types, vineyard practices and grape development in a distinctive wine-growing region of Galicia.
